Jobs to do in June

Spray citrus with wettable sulphur

Citrus buds mite are active now causing disfiguration of flowers, fruit and foliage.  Spray with wettable sulphur or Eco-Neem to protect trees and developing fruit.

Protect plants from frost

If you live in an area prone to frost, carry out routine applications of seaweed solution to improve frost tolerance. Some plants may also need the added protection of a frost cloth, while for others, clearing the mulch away from beneath the tree can be sufficient.

Clean and sharpen your tools

Fruit tree pruning will be well underway next month, so take this opportunity to clean and sharpen your tools. Apply linseed oil to the wooden handles of gardening tools and sharpen up pruning equipment as well as the bottom edge of garden spades and mower blades.

The Diggers Foundation

Clive and Penny Blazey, founders of The Diggers Club, gifted ownership of their highly successful garden company, along with family-owned properties Heronswood and St Erth, to The Diggers Foundation (formerly the Diggers Garden and Environment Trust) in 2011.

“We established The Diggers Foundation to ensure that the work we’ve done over more than 30 years in preserving historic gardens and houses as well as the best garden traditions through education will continue forever,” said Clive.

The Foundation strives to conserve historic gardens, buildings and cultural heritage and to protect heirloom seeds and our Vision is:

“To encourage and inspire gardeners to create beautiful and productive gardens for a sustainable future.”
